Blue Striped Day Dress

Europe or United States of America, ca.1870-75
Bright blue taffeta with woven gray and white stripes. The first of the three different bustle styles to emerge in the 19th century, the skirt portion is wide and full and constructed to mimic the draped and open robe style of the 18th century.
