Since its founding in 1983, the Kent State University Museum has grown in international presence and in prestige, such as being:

  • the first museum to bring a costume exhibition to the University of London's Brunei Gallery
  • the first museum to organize the premier U.S. tour of a Korean wearable art exhibition that was only seen in three U.S. cities: NY, LA, and Kent
  • the only American Museum, along with the Louvre and the Kyoto Costume Institute, chosen to participate at the cultural exhibition of the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece!

The Museum is Looking for a Few Good Men!
  

Help us purchase new male mannequins for the upcoming exhibition,
"Of Men and Their Elegance", and pay tribute to your favorite man!!

Your gift of $950 will support our exhibition fund and go to a very worthy cause...keeping the museum dressed properly!! We will recognize your gift in an engraved name plate on the mannequin's pedestal, a permanent reminder of your generosity and thoughtfulness. Put Yourself on a Pedestal. . .
  

Ever want to look like a model? Now you can when you buy a mannequin for $650. Your name (or that of a loved one) will be engraved on the pedestal for everyone to see whenever "you" are on display! Your gift will help the Museum purchase the latest in mannequin technology for better display of the garments, especially those of contemporary designers.

There are only six mannequins left before we reach our goal!

Enlightening the Museum. . .
  

We've got the action and the camera-now all we need are the lights! Help us purchase additional lighting fixtures so that our visitors can continue to enjoy the Museum's fine collections and exhibitions. Your gift of $200 will buy an appropriate fixture complete with dimmer, fuse, and bulb.

Be Fashionably Seated. . .
  

Please take your seat in the Museum's Murphy Auditorium. For $250, you're always fashionably seated; your name (or the name of your choice) is engraved on a seat plaque for all the world to see. More importantly, your tax deductible donation, which will go to the Museum's endowment, ensures that the Museum can continue its many programs bringing fashion and decorative arts to our communities. As a non-profit museum, we welcome financial gifts to help us maintain the collection and be accessible to students and the community.

Digital Library Project
Help us Expand our ' Visual Dictionary of Costume'
to Include the Museum's Entire Collection
  

Funding for this project will greatly enhance access to the collections of the Kent State University Museum, which possesses one of the largest and finest representations of costume and decorative arts from around the world. The museum is already a major cultural asset for the region, as well as a teaching resource for the Shannon Rodgers and Jerry Silverman School of Fashion Design and Merchandising. With access to the collection via the Internet, the museum would reach global audiences.
  
Features and Benefits:

  • Provide a global survey of 100 years of fashion history accessible through the World Wide Web.
  • Assist those in a broad spectrum of disciplines who are exploring the social, cultural, political and historical implications of the mode of dress on the fabric of American life.
  • Enhance global appreciation of the history of costume through use of the Web, state-of-the-art archival technology and curatorial expertise.
  • Allow students, faculty and colleagues from other institutions to access collections electronically, thus aiding conservation efforts.

Gift Opportunities:
A total of $275,000 is needed over a five-year period.

  • Digital library software costs - $50,000
  • Hardware: server, computer, scanner, and computer support - $30,000
  • Personnel: photography, data entry, scanning, sorting and cataloguing - $180,000
  • Promotion: Web design, collateral material and other communications - $15,000
