COURSE DESCRIPTION

Study and performance of choral music in the gospel tradition, including works by contemporary artists. A minimum of one performance on campus each semester. Concerts off-campus are scheduled upon request. One weekly rehearsal conducted by the instructor or a graduate assistant/assistant under the instructor’s supervision. The course is open to KSU students, faculty, staff, and community residents for undergraduate or graduate credit or by permission. Audition required.

OBJECTIVES

Choir members will:

1. Perform physical and vocal warm ups in preparation for singing.
2. Develop skills in listening to each section.
3. Develop and demonstrate musicianship skills.
4. Respond to gospel and traditional conducting cues.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of basic musical terminology.
6. Attend all scheduled rehearsals and performances.
7. Complete a voice placement audition (new members only).

UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS are required to enroll for credit.
COMMUNITY MEMBERS are required to attend rehearsals, performances, dress rehearsal, and the final concert.
