Audition Information
Any Kent State University student having appropriate background may audition to become a member of the Kent State University Orchestra. It is not necessary to be a music major to be a member of the Orchestra.

Auditions are held during the first week of classes each fall. A sign-up sheet is posted on the Orchestra bulletin board across from the School of Music office. Additional auditions may be scheduled at any time throughout the year by appointment. Please contact the Director of the Orchestra, Dr. Frank Wiley (Fwiley@kent.edu), to schedule an audition.

All undergraduate students, including those students who were members of the Orchestra the previous year, are required to play an audition. Returning graduate students are not required to play an audition but may choose to do so.
Auditions will consist of the following:

1. Scales (played as you practice them)
2. Prepared material of your choice
3. Sight reading

The prepared material may be anything that demonstrates your playing level. It may consist of a complete movement or excerpts. Solo repertoire and/or parts from orchestral or chamber-music repertoire may be included. The prepared material should demonstrate a range of playing styles and techniques.
Auditions are approximately 10 minutes in length.
If you play two instruments (such as flute and piccolo), please plan to play prepared material on both instruments for your audition.
