John Bottomley is currently a freelance tubist with an active performing career as an orchestral and chamber musician. He has performed with such groups as the Cincinnati Symphony and Pops Orchestra, Milwaukee Symphony, West Virginia Symphony, Cincinnati Opera and Ballet Orchestras and is Principal Tuba of the Richmond Symphony, and the Key West Symphony Orchestra. John’s career has taken him as far as Germany, where he performed with the Philharmonie Der Nationen under the baton of Justus Frantz. As a member of the Manhattan Brass Quintet he won prizes at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition and the New York Brass Conference. John is also a member of the Cincinnati Brassworks Quintet in residence at St. Peter in Chains Cathedral in Cincinnati.

John received his Master of Music Degree at the Manhattan School of Music and his Bachelor of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While at Madison he studied with Professor John Stevens whose tuba concerto was recently premiered with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. He is currently working on completion of a D.M.A. at The Ohio State University with tubist Jim Akins of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. During the summer months John teaches gifted high school students at the Lutheran Summer Music Academy.

Mr. Bottomley resides in Columbus, OH with his sleepy Basset Hound “Cleopatra” and Coonhound “Clara.” John donates to the Ohio Basset Hound Rescue and strongly encourages the hound dog as a good household music critic.
