Michael Chunn is Professor of Music (trumpet) in the Hugh A. Glauser School of Music at Kent State University in Ohio.  He received his Master of Music degree from the University of Illinois in 1980 as a student of David Hickman.  Upon graduation, he joined the faculty at Colorado State University as trumpet instructor and brass ensemble conductor.  While in Colorado, he also was principal trumpet with the Colorado Ballet Orchestra, was a member of the Denver based Aries Brass Quintet and performed as a substitute with the Denver Symphony Orchestra. 

Mr. Chunn is currently principal trumpet of the Opera Cleveland Orchestra and of Cleveland’s Red {an orchestra}.  He was also principal trumpet of the Cleveland Ballet Orchestra and the Ohio Chamber Orchestra for ten years.  Since joining the Kent faculty in 1983, he has performed with many orchestras in Northeast Ohio including the Cleveland Orchestra as well as the Akron Symphony, Canton Symphony and Youngstown Symphony. As a chamber musician, he performs with the Kent Brass Quintet.  Mr. Chunn also toured nationally for several years with the Metropolitan Brass Quintet of Cleveland and has taught on the faculty of the Blossom Festival School.  He has published an advanced trumpet method - A Trumpeter's Daily Routine (Medici Music Press).

An active soloist and recitalist throughout his career, Chunn has given solo performances at national and international conventions, such as the International Trumpet Guild Conferences, the American School Band Directors National Convention, the Music Teachers National Association Convention and the Mid-West Band Clinic, as well as with festivals and orchestras across the United States.  He has recorded for Crystal Records, including his solo album Michael Chunn Plays Music for Cornet and Trumpet (S662).
