Curfman was Director of Bands for the Cuyahoga Falls City Schools for 13 years. Curfman taught in the Copley-Fairlawn, Rittman, Akron-Firestone and Nordonia schools prior to his tenure in Cuyahoga Falls. Student enrollment in the Cuyahoga Falls band program, grades 5-12, has increased from 376 in 1991 to over 800 in 2004. Curfman served on the continuous improvement committee and was the high school Fine Arts Department chair. He has served area universities as a cooperating teacher with over 20 music student teachers. He spent two years as the executive director of The National Music Booster Club and Bands Across the USA. Curfman holds degrees from The Ohio State University (B.M.E.) and from the VanderCook College of Music (M.M.E.).
Inducted into the American School Band Directors Association in 1986, Curfman is a member of Phi Beta Mu, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Ohio Music Education Association, Music Educators National Conference and was recently named the “Outstanding Educator” by the Cuyahoga Falls PTA Council. He is an adjudicator for OMEA and has served on the band music selection committee. Curfman has judged and hosted events in Ohio, Texas, Illinois, California and Canada for Music in the Parks. Currently serving as the president of the VanderCook College of Music Alumni Association, he is active as guest conductor and clinician.
