David DeBolt is Professor of Music and Coordinator of Woodwinds at Kent State University where he is the bassoonist of the Kent Wind Quintet and the Kent Camerata. As a major orchestra principal, he performed from 1966-82 with the Kansas City Philharmonic under the batons of many internationally distinguished conductors. He also served as principal bassoonist for the orchestras of Birmingham, Tulsa, and the Santa Fe Opera. An active solo and chamber performer in many areas of the United States, Europe, and China, his recording "David DeBolt, Bassoon Music of Twentieth-Century America" (Crystal CD 347) led The Instrumentalist magazine (9/99) to select DeBolt as the bassoonist on a list of exemplary recording artists. Fanfare (September/October, 2001) described his newest recording"A Musical Painting Comes to Life" (Crystal CD 841) as displaying "skill, elegance, and... dramatic power."
DeBolt has also taught at the University of Kansas, Tulsa University, and Sewanee Summer Music Center, and has given workshops and master classes at leading music schools on three continents. He studied bassoon with Bernard Garfield (Principal, Philadelphia Orchestra), Harold Goltzer (New York Philharmonic), and with George Wilson at Ohio State University, where he earned degrees.
