Andrew Shahriari earned his Ph.D. in ethnomusicology from Kent State University in 2001. His dissertation focused on the music and culture of northern Thailand and was published as a book, Khon Muang Music and Dance Traditions of North Thailand, by White Lotus Co., Ltd., a Bangkok press, in 2005. He is also co-author (with Kent State Professor Emeritus, Terry E. Miller) of World Music: A Global Journey, published by Routledge, an American press, in 2005. His fieldwork experiences have taken him thus far to Thailand, China, Europe, Mexico, and many regions of the United States.
Dr. Shahriari is currently part-time faculty at Kent State. He is pursuing certification in music therapy from Baldwin-Wallace College. Other areas of interest include popular world music, rock music history, East Asian music and culture, music and spirituality, as well as music therapy and autism. He is also involved in web-based learning and is creator of the online version of the course, “Music as a World Phenomenon” offered by Kent State University.
