The Division of Music Education at Kent State University provides a quality, comprehensive program at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Undergraduate Program in Music Education prepares the student to teach ages 3-21. A graduate from Kent State University is eligible for licensure for music teaching from the state of Ohio; this license is valid in most states.
The music curriculum in the first two years at Kent is virtually the same for all music majors. During the last two years of the program, the Music Education student chooses to specialize in either instrumental music or choral/general music. Regardless of the specialty, students become acquainted with all aspects of music teaching and methodology.
The program in music education is comprehensive. It is designed to develop students and prepare them for a career in the demanding, yet rewarding field of music teaching.
