Edward E. and Margaret M. Bauer exhibited uncommon grace and style with a love of travel and an interest in cultures different from their own. Their daughter Ann Bauer Tucker established the Bauer Scholarship to encourage and support Kent State University students with an intellectual curiosity to study abroad. Ann and her spouse Jack are exemplary citizens of the University and have twice served as directors of the Geneva Semester.

Students interested in participating in the Geneva Semester in the fall 2009 or spring 2010 are invited to apply for this scholarship.  The award of the Bauer Scholarship is contingent on participation in the Geneva Semester in either of the aforementioned terms.

The minimum qualifications are:

  3.3 overall grade point average,

  Currently enrolled in good stating at Kent State University, and

  64 credit hours completed by the end of the Fall 2008 semester

The application requires a response to the following questions:

1.  Summarize your academic career and personal accomplishments to date.

2.  Why have you selected this study-abroad program?

3.  What do you expect to accomplish during your semester abroad, including goals and expectations?

Bauer Scholar - Fall 2008:  Anna Strawn

Anna Stawn is a junior in the Kent State University Honors College.  She is majoring in Political Science with a minor in German. Anna has been on the Dean's List several times as well as the President's list in the fall of 2007.  Anna has been selected to participate in the Washinton Program in Natinal Issues.  She works at the KSU Library during the year and in the summer works in food service and factory jobs.  She is an avid reader and loves music.

Bauer Scholar - Spring 2009:  Kayla Mahaffey

Kayla Mahaffey is a junior in the Honors College.  She is majoring in International Relations with a minor in Human Communications. In 2008 she participated in the National Model NATO Conference in Washington, D.C. which is co-sponsored by Kent State and Howard University.  She was a member of the delegation representing Greece at that conference.

Kayla is a resident assistant and has an extraordinary high grade point average. 

Bauer Scholar - Spring 2009:  Megan Petroski 

Megan Petroski is a junior with an International Relations major, with a minor in Geography.  She is also in the Kent State University Honors College. Megan is very involved in her residence hall as both a resident assistant as well as a representative to the Kent Interhall Council. At the Student Recreation and Wellness Center she is a life-guard and teaches swimming lessons.

She recently traveled to the 2008 Model NATO conference in Washington, DC.

Bauer Scholars 2007 - 2008: Abi Luempert and Tanja Petrovic

Abi Luempert is a senior public relations major at Kent State University.  She is an active member in Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity and she is involved with the Kent State chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America.

Ms. Luempert spent two years as a resident assistant and is finishing her second internship before participating in the fall 2007 Geneva Semester. She’s interested in seeing all there is to see, meeting all whom she can meet and trying all kinds of food indigenous to Europe!

Tanja Petrovic is an Honors College sophomore majoring in International Relations and Psychology with a minor in North Atlantic Security Studies. 

She is a member of Phi Beta Delta International Honorary Society as well as a Student Ambassador for Kent State University.  Ms. Petrovic participated in the 2007 Model NATO Conference in Washington D.C.

Tanja is also a residence hall assistant.
