Wallace's Sam reported in the Fall 2007 from Geneva, 'Just got back from the field trip and
Brussels where I went afterward. Field trip was amazing.' Erin
of Tulane from the spring '07 class said, "Being back at school just makes how amazing the semester in
Geneva was more apparent. Given the opportunity would go back in
a second!" Kent State's Tyler,
an alum from spring 2006 wrote us in January 2008 and
said, "Kent State University's Geneva Semester allows students the
opportunity to become immersed in a community of international
thought. Without the internships and groups discussion, student
would not be able to grow beyond the academic level." Kent
State's Dan W. said this about his fall 2006 semester: "30 friends for life, 9 countries in
four months and the most knowledgeable faculty in my academic
career." Anne the University of Mary Washington and spring of 2006 said, "Best 4 months of my life." The Geneva Semester is a lasting experience. Wheaton College's, Laura from the spring 2002 wrote us in September, 2006 and said, "My time in Geneva was unforgettable, and the knowledge and experiences I gained there have served me well ever since!" As
Molly
from Miami
University said on return from Spring 2006 in Geneva,
"Thank you very much! I would like to extend my gratitude for
such a wonderful experience." Still missing Geneva, Evan, Bowdoin College, Spring 2005 I
for one
learned a great deal of independence from my semester in Although I' am currently swimming deep in applications, final papers, thoughts for post-graduate plans . . . I always look back at my experience in Switzerland to calm me down. More so than anything else, the trip has triggered a thirst for knowledge and understanding of the world/people in it. Rosa, University of Illinois - Champaign Urbana, spring 2005 My time in Geneva was possibly the best time of my life - I wouldn't trade it for anything. I learned so much on that trip - a lot from the classroom but even more from my travels. The people I met and the experiences I had will stay with me for the rest of my life. I think every student should study abroad at some point in their college career. Matt, Southern Methodist University, spring 2005 Duke University's Craig wrote recently about his fall 2003 experience: On a personal note, I would like to thank everyone at Kent State for putting together such a great opportunity. The Geneva Program was an incredibly important experience in my own personal and academic development. It also brought together students from all over the country. Regina a graduate of Yale University and Spring 1996 alum wrote us in May 2005 and said, I was just remembering my experience and have such fond memories . . . I learned so much about international relations, human rights and the political issues facing communities and cultures across the globe. Visiting the UN and so many other international organizations across Europe was incredible. I did my internship at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, which was excellent. I also met with leaders in the fight against HIV at the WHO and had the chance to sit in on session of the Human Rights Commission at the U.N. To this day, people in my life are amazed at some of the opportunities I had in Geneva. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks and keep up the great work throughout this program It was a life-changing experience. I wanted to thank you so so so so much for this invaluable experience. Thank you for answering all of our questions, organizing the orientation and preparing us for such a life changing experience. I will truly be forever grateful for every opportunity, friendship, and life-long lesson learned there. Mallory, Wake Forest, Fall 2004 Semester abroad, a lifetime of memories . . . Geneva - a place were in the middle of everything you find out a little something about yourself. Elizabeth (KSU - Spring 2004) As I am sure you've heard, it was an amazing experience for everyone involved and in fact, some of us gathered this weekend here in Boston for a little reunion. Ian, Boston College, Spring 2004 Joanne (Gettysburg College) from spring 2003 wrote on July 7, 2005: The program was an amazing experience and all my profs were some of the best I have ever had the pleasure of learning from. Nick from spring 2001, wrote on July 6, 2004: I can't tell you enough how much Geneva has meant to me. I never walk a day without thinking about the program, how much I learned, the caliber of people involved, and the lens I have been offered to look at the world. I just wanted to drop a line and say hello and thanks again for the best semester of my life. I wrote my Senior Honors Thesis about the role of the U.N. Security Council in the war in Iraq and the need for reform of the Security Council. The Geneva Semester definitely helped me to focus my thesis topic. Boston College's Maureen (Spring 2003) wrote us that note in August 2004. Joe (Kent State - Spring 2003) recently wrote: The Geneva program has done so much for me. It exposed me to many cultures, languages and foods of many different countries. I had a solid internship at the UN to put on my resume which impressed prospective employers ar my interviews. I
couldn't have hoped for a more intelligent or mature
group. I think that this program attracts the best sort of
people, not just those looking for a five month spring break but
students who rally want to experience everything that Europe has to
offer. The group I was with in geneva was really the best part of
my whole experience. Mark, The
University of Michigan,
Spring 2004
We have recently begun a round of nostalgic emails as we all realize the summer at home with family and friends is winding down and instead of heading back to the fantastic Swiss city we called home for our last semester we are al headed back to various universities around the country. Lauren, Spring 2004, Tufts University Ashley
(pictured at right) from James Madison University said this
about her
fall
2002 Geneva Semester: If you're thinking about going at all, a spark of
interest, go for it. Your life will never be the same. Your
horizons are broadened to a new language, lifestyle, new people and
food,
a new view on how to look on the world. The Geneva semester was by far and away the best experience I've ever had. I learned so much about people, politics, and culture, and I think I did more traveling in those four months than many people do in a lifetime. I feel luck and blessed to have been a part of this experience. I'm still in contact with people from KSU-Geneve, some of whom are among my closest friends now. Caroline, University of Virginia, Fall 2002 Studying and living in Geneva gave me the opportunity to develop and nurture an interest for human rights issues. I made invaluable contacts, enjoyed once in a lifetime opportunities, and traveled a lot. Geneva also gave me the chance to experience the diversity of many cultures, languages and nationalities. I had a great time! Muna, Davidson College, Spring 2002 I was just checking out the website for some Geneva updates. I miss it so much, I want to go back and do it all over again. I am happy to see that the Tuckers will be the directors in the Spring - they were great. Liz from Loyola of New Orleans (Fall 2001) on July 29, 2004 I had a fantastic time - my internship was great, the travel was great. I made some amazing friends, the classes were good. All in all, I absolutely love it. Susan, Kent State University, Fall 2003 I learned as much about life as international relations and politics. Corey, University of Minnesota, Spring 2001 I cannot say enough good things about the opportunities this program provides. Internships provide links to fantastic international organizations, the homestay program bettered my language skills in ways I never thought possible, and the people on the program and involved in it are wonderfully diverse. Geneva is indeed the smallest of the world's greatest cities, and I encourage everyone to explore every inch of it. This is the experience of a lifetime, and I hope everyone has as wonderful an experience as I did. Mindy, University of Evansville, Fall 2002 An
experience that will
change you in ways you never thought possible. Gerald,
University
of Illinois, Spring 2003 Six
months after the program has ended, I am still learning things from my
study abroad. I think I have an edge not only in the classroom,
but also in applying to graduate school because of the experiences and
knowledge I gained while in Geneva. Geneva was an exceptional
study abroad experience that is unlike any others I have heard of, and
I am grateful I was able to participate in it. Melanie,
University of Wisconsin, Spring 2003 My internship experience in Geneva at the World Health Organization was amazing. I've made so many wonderful contacts and I'm even completing my Senior Year Independent Study Project here at Wooster on my work with the Tobacco Free Initiative at the WHO. Thanks Kent State. Leslie, Wooster College, Spring 2002 I can always come back to Geneva but it will never be the same. I highly recommend that if you are thinking about doing it - do it. It has been the most amazing thing I have ever done and I will never be the same because of it. I can't believe how much I have learned about myself and the world around me. Julie, Kent State University, Spring 2001
