Northern Ireland is famous for its natural beauty and the warmth and  hospitality of its people.  It is a country forging ahead in business, science, and technology.  The internal strife and violence subsided in the early 1990's leading to a peaceful and prosperous era for citizens and visitors.  A few isolated areas of Belfast remain off-limits to the wise traveler.

Kent State University's exchange partnership with the University of Ulster began in 1990.  Forty-five Kent students have participated in the exchange to date, with participation steadily increasing.

Earn credit in a variety of classes offered at one of four campus sites.  Your assigned campus will depend on the courses or "module" you wish to study.  KSU students are normally placed at either Jordanstown or Coleraine.

Jordanstown Campus

The Jordanstown campus provides first- class teaching, learning and recreational facilities. More than 12,000 students attend Jordanstown, which makes it the largest of the four campuses.  Jordanstown’s proximity to Belfast (7 miles) means that students and visitors can either make full use of on-campus accommodations or live in the city.

The campus overlooks Belfast Lake and is an excellent base for exploring greater Belfast and the surrounding area. Just to the north is the  city of Carrickfergus, with its striking Norman castle and marina. The coastal route further north offers spectacular scenery.  Interesting places along this coast include the Carrick-a-rede bridge, a rope bridge (see in the above photo) spanning an eighty foot deep chasm; and the world famous Giants Causeway, a natural stone formation.

Coleraine Campus

This college campus is on 300 acres of former farmland, giving it a park-like setting.  Approximately 5,000 students, full-time and part-time, attend the the Coleraine campus , which is also the site of the university's administrative offices.

The campus houses the Riverside Theatre, and the Diamond, which is the largest lecture hall in the University.  The main campus complex includes shops, a bookshop banks, post office, coffee shop, cafeterias and a supermarket.
