Student Financial Aid

Financial aid is available in the form of scholarships, grants, loans or campus employment. You may be one of the more than 70 percent of Kent State freshment who qualify for financial aid. If you have any questions about financial aid and scholarship opportunities, you may schedule an appointment with a financial aid counselor or contact the Office of Student Financial Aid at 330-672-2972 or email finaid@kent.edu.

Additionally, Kent State University recognizes and rewards academically talented minority students through several programs.

  • The Oscar Ritchie Memorial Scholarship Program
  • This scholarship is based upon an exam for African-American, Hispanic, or Latino and Native American, high school juniors with a fifth semester cumulative grade point average of 3.25 who are nominated by their high school counselors or community leaders. Awards rangew from $2000 to $8500 per year. Deadline for application is March 1 of your junior year.

  • The Minority Incentive Scholarship Program
    This program is available to incoming African-American, Hispanic, or Latino and Native American freshmen with a cumulative GPA of 3.0. Awards ranging from $2000 to $3500 are renewable for six semesters after the initial award. Applicants must complete and submit a freshman scholarship application to the Kent State University admissions Office.
  • The Minority Incentive Award
    This award is presented to associate degree transfer students with a preferred minimum of 64 semester credit hours and a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Awards range from $2000 to $3500. Deadline for application is May 1.
  • The African-American Scholarship
    This scholarship is awarded to sophomores through graduate student. Applicants with high grade point averages receive priority consideration. Awards range from $250 to $500 per year. Deadline for application is February 15.
  • The Institutional Diversity Scholarship
    This scholarship is awarded to African-American, Hispanic, or Latino, Native American, or Asian-American transfer and graduate students. Full-time enrollment and a 3.0 cumulative GPA is required for undergraduate and a 3.5 GPA for graduate students. Students must demonstrate financial need as dtermined on gthe FAFSA. The deadline for submission of the online application is February 15.
  • The Minority Room Grants
    These grants are awarded to incoming freshmen students showing exceptional financial need. Students can be considered once the results of their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has been received by the Office of Student Financial Aid. Awards are based upon high school grade point average, ACT/SAT scores, demonstration of financial need and fund availability. No application is necessary.
