About the General Clinical Psychology Program

The General Clinical Track is designed to meet the needs of students who desire broad training in clinical psychology, or of those who have not yet decided on an area of specialization or specific research focus. It is often the case that incoming graduate students have research and clinical interests that may be met effectively by our training program without pursuing an area of specialization, or they may have multiple research and clinical interests that encompass more than one area of specialization. It is also possible that students have not decided on an interest area and would like to develop one once they have been exposed to courses and research experiences in graduate school.

Research Training in General Clinical Psychology

In the general track, selection of a research supervisor and focus area can occur once the student becomes more familiar with specific supervisors, projects, and resources available here. Students applying to the general track can potentially work with any faculty member in the Clinical Training Program .

Coursework

Students, in conjunction with their advisors, are free to select elective courses designed to provide broad coverage of research and practice areas that meet their particular interests and needs.

Clinical Experiences

Clinical experiences within the practicum also provide a broad based exposure to differing approaches to assessment and treatment. An Advanced General specialty practicum is offered although students may elect to participate in other specialty practica (e.g. couples, eating disorders, neuropsychological assessment)
