Satyendra Kumar’s important contributions range from the discovery and characterization of new liquid crystalline phases, including the thermotropic biaxial nematic, two patents in the practical arena of liquid crystals, notably the development of innovative polymer-stabilized liquid crystal film technology with wide-ranging potential for optical bean steering, switching and other electro-optical applications.
Kumar has a distinguished and consistent publication record, including an impressive percentage of papers in the most prestigious and widely read scientific journals such as Physical Review Letters and Science. His world-wide recognition in the liquid crystals field includes his recent election as president of the International Liquid Crystals Society.
