CELEBRATION OF SCHOLARSHIP - HISTORY AND OVERVIEW
Thirteen years ago the first Celebration of Scholarship was held in order to acknowledge the excellence of Kent State scholars and their works, and to support the cultures of research and creative activity on the university’s eight campuses. One of the many goals of the event has been to provide opportunities for faculty, students, and staff to come together as a community for collegial recognition and conversation about scholarship in its many and diverse forms.
Until being moved to Honors week in 2001, Celebration of Scholarship had always been held during final exam week of spring semester. Remaining as a single-day event, it continued to feature the Distinguished Scholar Award ceremony, a performing arts concert, presentations, and a poster/display session. In 2007 it was revamped and became a multi-day celebration, adding programs held by departments all over campus to its usual schedule of events.
Garnering participation from faculty, students, and staff, the Celebration has always focused on a theme as a means of bringing together scholarship from all the disciplines. Though it has improved and changed through the years, it continues to build upon its past improvements and set new milestones each time the event is held. |
