Dear members of the Medical Sociology listserv:
We have switched our listserv to Brown University because Communications for a
Sustainable Future will be ceasing operation in September. We are grateful to
them for their support over these years. And we thank Computing and
Information Services at Brown University for hosting our new listserv.
The new list is still named MEDSOC and the subscriber list has been
transferred intact. Information on how to post to the list is below. This
information also will be found at the bottom of every message or digest you
receive from the list:
--Postings to the lists are sent to medsoc@listserv.brown.edu (note:
there is no "e" in "listserv")
--E-mail commands to manage your subscription are sent to listserv@listserv.brown.edu
--A website for viewing messages in the archive or changing your
subscription can be found at:
http://listserv.brown.edu/archives/medsoc.html
--If you have any problems please report them to: medsoc-request@listserv.brown.edu
MEDSOC is an unmoderated list. That means that any message sent to the
list will automatically be sent to all current members of the list. Be
sure to check that you wish your message to be read by the global community
before sending it across the ether, and please try to limit each post to short
messages. Many subscribers will simply take themselves off the list if much
garbage comes across it, and our purpose will be defeated. Others will wish
to read and participate in certain parts of the discussions. For these
reasons, several guidelines MUST be strictly observed if this effort is going
to be successful:
1. Do not post anything that is of interest to only a few individuals whom you
could e-mail directly.
2. Always use an explicit, informative subject line
3. Never engage in personal attacks or flaming on the list.
4. Do post items of broad interest to subscribers. Please do respect all users
who do not want their mailboxes cluttered.
5. Do not reply to other people’s postings by hitting your “reply” button. It
clutters up the list if you include the entire original message. It is better
to write something like, “In responses to Jane Smith’s query on environmental
sociology films,” and to put in the subject line a succinct subject, e.g.
“query on films,” “research on pesticides.”
6. Do not paste entire articles from a newspaper or website. Instead, mention
that there is an interesting article and give the location for people to find
it.
David Bott will continue to manage the listserv.
Thanks for being part of our listserv community.
Phil Brown and David Bott
