SOTY Guard: 2002 KSUMGF Color Guard
The Kent State University Marching Golden Flashes Color Guard team is back in action. SOTY Guard!! This year has proven to be monumental in terms of our ability, artistic strength and overall funness.
With new equipment such as t-poles, more flags, new silks, chain flags, 10 foot poles, and rifles we're working to create a more talented, diverse, and recognizable guard. Additionally, the Color Guard is looking forward to receiving our new uniforms towards the beginning of October. Until then, we'll be wearing our spirited white spandex!!!
In August, our team put together a fundraiser at the Back to School Blastoff where we raised over $200 for new stand pom-poms. Selling goldfish was a huge success and we're looking to do more, similar fundraisers.
Anita Shapasian, our Color Guard advisor, is starting her second year on the squad. With great ideas and a strong value system, Anita is helping to make us a more organized and united team. We thank Anita for all her hard work and dedication.
We'd also like to thank Crystal for her mission as seamstress and good work over the past five years. Crystal works endless hours sewing flags, searching for material and embroidering our jackets and shorts.
Tia and Lexi are finishing their senior year with a bang. As co-captains, they are using their past experience at college and in the KSUMGFC to build a better band. By utilizing their abilities and tenure, both are working in unison to create a fun and challenging environment for all eleven of us.
So, look out for the 2002 edition of the KSUMGFC! With six veterans and five rookies we're back, better, and ready to spin! SOTY GUARD!!
