10 things that a field commander must have:
1. A sense of humor
2. The ability to look past every stupid question they get asked
3. Enough money to cover the dry cleaning bill
4. The coordination to move each hand in a different direction at the same time
5. Enough strength to carry that god forsaken podium
6. The knowledge to know when to be a peace keeper and when to be a warrior
7. To know when you have to be the bad guy.
8. The strength to move enough air through the diaphragm to capture the attention of the stupid people who aren't listening
9. The ability to eat a hot dog or hamburger in a single bite
10. The mental stability to not only conduct the show, but to make sure everyone has their uniform, their music, their coolers, their plumes and knows when to step off, cue the drummers, smile for the audience, set up the podium without getting dirty, watch the game, be nice to the "big-wigs", keep the director on task, yell out cues to band, fix drill, sing the alma mater, use a whistle, teach fundamentals, have a life outside of band, glue your feet to the podium on a windy day, shrug off daily criticism, and have fun all at the same time.

How do you know when a field commander is knocking at your door?
They cut-off and start all over again.

How many field commanders does it take to change a light bulb?
No one knows because no one ever pays attention.
