Getting Connected
Staying Involved

They may forget what you said, but they will never forget how you made them feel.
Carl W. Buechner

Benefits of Membership

Mortar Board is a National Organization with more than 200 chapters and over 200,000 members. Membership is a lifelong honor and connects you to a community of highly visible, well respected, and valued individuals.

As much as members are dedicated to the ideals of the national organization, Mortar Board is dedicated to the continued development of its members, through leadership opportunities, alumni relations, foundation grants, and career services.

During the National Conference 2006, keynote speaker, Rusty Rueff, pointed out these benefits to membership.

Lifetime of Rewards

RustyWhat’s going to happen after you graduate?

You’re probably going to get a few job offers, and you’re going to pick one to start your career. You’ll pick it because you liked the people. You connected with them at your interview because they were like you.

You'll work in a department, with other people, just like you. You'll start to socialize with people at work and build new friendships with people who are just like you. And one day you'll realize there isn't much opportunity to interact with people who are different from you anymore.

That’s the very special, once in a lifetime opportunity you have right now with Mortar Board. You have the chance to work with people, build friendships with people, network with people who come from varied backgrounds, with varied majors, with varied talents and interests. And all you have to do is show up. Take advantage of this extraordinary gift. Be active with your chapter. Build connections with your fellow Mortar Boarders.

They will last you a lifetime.

In today's competitive market, employers are looking for more than just excellent academics from their prospective candidates. Mortar Board is known for its outreach in philanthropic, cost-effective programs serving their local and global community. Through these programs, you gain hands on experience in project management, resource allocation, outreach opportunities, the rewards of philanthropy, plus you get to have fun while you do it because you are working with other talented, highly motivated, and dedicated individuals. Employers value this experience and your motivation to be involved in your community.

Also, consider that corporations no longer focus solely on profit. Most have included an element of social responsibility in their business plan. They understand the value of corporate philanthropy. You understand it, too. Through Mortar Board, you will already know how to balance your professional and volunteer work. You will have distinguished yourself as someone with high ideals, who acts with integrity, who has a passion for community outreach, and works well with very diverse high performing self managed teams.

And the best part is, you're connected for life!
