Participation Policy

Mortar Board is an active society. While it is an honor to be selected for membership in Mortar Board, it is the commitment to continue to serve which differentiates an honor society from an honorary. Accepting membership means accepting the responsibility and obligation to be an active participant in chapter activities. This commitment is an agreement to actively support the ideals of the society.

Each chapter of Mortar Board defines for itself a Participation Policy which becomes part of its Constitution. A copy of the policy is sent to the National Office and becomes a part of our retained records.

The Laurels current participation policy approved on 10/04/06.

Section 3 – Participation Policy
A. Meetings. The Laurels Chapter has regular meetings at least twice a month as well as satellite meetings during off weeks. All members must attend meetings. All members can miss one or two meetings per semester; however, a second missed meeting will be accompanied by a warning. Valid excuses must be in writing and be given to the secretary to be kept on file with attendance records.

B. Activities. The Laurels Chapter is an active chapter maintaining traditional projects and events as well as planning new activities each year. Member participation in these activities is critical for continued leadership development and the success of our chapter. Members are expected to participate in at least one activity per month, new member selection, and the initiation ceremony each year.

Proposed Amendment

For the new chapter of 2007-2008 to consider.
