How Can I Be Selected? Are you in your last semester of your junior year? If you can answer yes to all of these questions then you exemplify the ideals of Mortar Board and our ongoing commitment to
You should consider applying to this prestigious national organization during the Fall semester. The Laurels Chapter uses several resources to invite as many qualifying candidates as possible to apply, but anyone who meets these criteria can apply and will be considered, regardless of formal invitation. We're sorry. The deadline has passed to apply online. Once received, applications are reviewed by the Mortar Board chapters based on their membership selection plan as approved by the national organization. Students are selected based on the national society's selection criteria. Local members then vote to select their final candidate choices and then submit that list of candidates to the Mortar Board National Office for final approval. Usually, no more than 50 new members will be voted into next year's chapter. Once approval is granted, "tapping" (invitations to join the society) begins in the Spring! After being "tapped", new members are invited to participate in social events and ongoing projects to become familiar with the society and its current members. A formal orientation event will explain the history of the organization and answer any questions candidates may have about membership.
Initiation into the society occurs later in the Spring semester and candidates are encouraged to invite their friends, families, and professors to help celebrate this memorable occasion in their academic career.
