Getting Connected
Staying Involved

Great opportunities to help others seldom come, but small ones surround us daily.
Sally Koch

Laurels Projects

In addition to our many core projects, the Laurels also participate in a wide range of smaller but very meaningful projects throughout the year. We are very proud of the strong commitment to serve displayed by our members. Typical of the Mortar Board spirit, they see a need and respond with generous hearts, creative minds, and helping hands.

February 2007 - Mortar Board Week!

We decorated a display case in the Student Center that stood for the entire week. We were also inspired by President Lefton's retention initiatives and tabled in the Student Center and passed out these valentines to students while answering questions about Mortar Board and our application process.

Combined Chapter Book Drive to benefit the Canton Arts Academy

The incoming and outgoing chapters united to host a book drive to benefit the Canton Arts Academy. This recently founded school for children grades 3-8, gifted in performing arts had a brand new library but only a limited selection of books. With our National Project, Reading is Leading, in our hearts - we raised over 300 books with the help of our members, a local children's library, and Woodsy's Music in Kent!

Autism Speaks, Walk for Autism Research

Both incoming and outgoing members formed a virtual team for the 2007 Pittsburgh Walk Now for Autism through Autism Speaks to raise money and awareness for autism research. Raising almost $500 for this charity, team members were able to direct donors to our very own Kent State Mortar Board Walk for Autism web page!
