Who Are We?

AGES (Association of Graduate English Students) is an organization committed to English graduate student interests at Kent State University. We were originally formed to connect and represent all English Graduate Students at Kent State University.

AGES tries to foster a strong and supportive atmosphere for graduate students in the Department of English at Kent State University through meetings, events, and more informal interaction.

Who is Part of AGES?

We are a group of graduate students in English Literature, Rhetoric and Composition, Creative Writing, and TESOL. All graduate students in the English department are automatically members of AGES.

What Does AGES Do?

(View the AGES Constitution here.)
AGES annually elects a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer. We also post two representatives to the Faculty Advisory Committee, and the Writing Committee, respectively. In addition, we appoint a primary and an alternate Graduate Student Senate Representative.

Officers are elected and Representatives are chosen every Spring semester. All officers must be graduate students in the English Department at the time of their term of office. Nomination forms are distributed in the Spring, and graduate students can nominate themselves or their peers. The nominations are announced, distributed, and every graduate student has a week in which to hand in their choices. The students elected as President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer may only hold one office. Officers and representatives serve a term of one year, and may serve three consecutive terms in the same position.

AGES Meetings will be announced at least a week before they are held.

In addition to our representative functions, AGES works to bring graduate students together in other ways as well. We also hold events which introduce students to one another and to the programs of study. Additional programs involve interactions between the graduate students and faculty in instructional formats, such as how to prepare a CV or methods of using the library resources in a classroom setting.
