Tonight's meeting was focused solely on the Week of Labor Action (the week directly following Spring Break). We also briefly re-affirmed that we want to work with SALSA, etc. on the upcoming Hispanic Awareness Week. We didn't mention the anti-sweatshop Code of Conduct, but Ryan is continuing to pursue the elusive Jim Watson as Mike tries to contact Sam Harper about getting USS to start the ball rolling on recruiting a review committee.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
-SEEDs of CHANGE is printed and available. It looks good, but we need to withdraw another $20.00 from CHANGE to reimburse the editorial committee for printing costs. Mike will withdraw the money. (SEED owes another $20.00 too.) Mike is applying for university funding for SEEDs of CHANGE to hopefully take effect for next academic year.
Outreach/Promotion:
-Mike is in touch with the Daily Kent Stater and will contact other media outlets. It was mentioned that we should publish something on Indymedia as well.
Reservations:
-Colby will reserve the tables, double-check to make sure the Ratt is completely taken care of (it's the only thing we haven't gotten a receipt for in the mail), try to get Wednesday's Sound Waiver extended until 2:30 PM, contact Audio-Visual Services to reserve 2 microphones and a speaker system for the rally, 1 microphone and a podium for Stuaughton Lynd, and a standard band sound system for the benefit concert (letting us know if there are any unexpected costs).
-Games Night: Julie needs to contact Megan Zimmerman to learn the rules to "Wheel of Misfortune". Mike will contact Chris Fox about borrowing the game "Class War".
-FTAA video: Brett and Tim are handling it. Room is reserved. If they give CHANGE flyers, we will put them up.
-Rally:
Staughton Lynd:
Fair Trade Coffee Workshop:
Labor Movement Films
Meeting with Andrea Spandonis:
Benefit Concert:
8:00 CHANGE introduction
(The exact times are subject to change, but this is the order that the bands will be playing in.)
~Suggested donation is $3.00, more is welcome. If you can't afford $3.00 you won't be turned away, but we will try to get just about everyone to pay the suggested level. We really need the money!
That's about it for now. Have a great Spring Break! (Try to avoid frost bite.)
-Events on Thursday: SEED Recycling Forum at 7 PM on 3rd floor of Student Center, CARE vegan potluck at United Church of Christ at 7:30 PM.
-We will be meeting at the Fountain in the Student Center Plaza on Sunday, March 28 at 5:00 PM to chalk for the Week of Action
-We need to find a time to put up flyers on the morning of Monday, March 29.
-We will be meeting at noon on Monday the 29th in front of the MACC to pass out handbills
-Tell everyone you know about the Week of Action and make sure to mention it at work when your co-workers are thinking about how much their job sucks!
-We will be tabling on the 2nd floor of the Student Center on Monday the 29th and Tuesday the 30th from 11:00 AM-2:00 PM and on Wednesday the 31st from 10:00-11:00 AM.
~We have a veritable horde of speakers including several union officials. Mike still has to follow up with some of them about time slots
~We have no backup space in case of extremely bad weather because a public rally by definition must be held in the open. So pray to the Sun God to be with us on the 31st!
~Julie will MC, Mike will bottomline and take pictures.
~Mike will call Ted to see if he can videotape the rally
~We made some signs for the rally and there are more in storage in "The Hole". Someone should ask John Harper about getting them out.
~Tim Mayer is contacting faculty to promote the Lynd event
~Mike will introduce Staughton Lynd. Can anyone else take pictures?
~Nicole and Brett are taking care of it. We corrected the date on the workshop flyer (it originally said Thurs. April 3, it now says Thurs. April 1)
~Julie will be botomlining. Julie is ordering "Live Nude Girls Unite!". Mike has "CorpOrNation" (replacement for Howard Zinn film).
~Post-poned indefinitely until we gather a massive number of petition signatures. She is not proving to be very cooperative at this point in time. We really need to step up on the signature-gathering, pressure-raising.
~All of the bands are confirmed. The schedule is as follows:
8:15 Riverbottom Bushwhackers
8:45 MC Homeless
9:00 Sue Jeffers
9:45 Blitz
10:15 Kill the Hippies
