Ellen talked to Jim Watson about the following four things:
1.) WRC (Kent monitoring organization) Update-this information will be provided on the list serve
2.) All factories KSU buys products from, will be on CHANGE website
3.) Trying to expand the code of conduct to athlethics, but needs approval of a busy Carol Carthwright, hopefully this will be done within
two weeks
4.) Fair Trade t-shirts-KEnt state's bookstore (Follet) would not dish out enough dough to purchase these T-Shirts in surplus, so Equal
Exchange is financing and warehousing them and Follet is buying them on demand.
-Thanks very much to Walter Davis for going to mandatory meeting for us!
WE have decieded to have POCLAD come to campus to speack on "Challenging the Empire Story and Creating our own". This topic will
focus on issues such as globalization, WTO, and NAFTA. It looks as though they will come on Nov.19th (Tuesday), time and location is yet
to be decieded.
-Morgan has volunteered to go to USS to get the appropriate allocations for this event
The following measures were done this week in CHANGE'S effort to bring fair trade coffee to Kent:
1.) Ellen has purchased Santiago's Story from Global Exchange to be viewed next week by CHANGE.
2.) Nicloe is waiting for an organization package and a video, and did some research on colleges in W.Virgina and Penns. that have been
somewhat successful in fair trade compromises with universities (although the compromise often involed Starbucks)
3.) CHANGE members meet in the library to discuss/find info on fair trade, put together a flyer for RA's to consider CHANGE for
programs, and found websites on fair trade coffee.
4.) Mike talked to a co-op about purchasing coffee and found out that their coffee would be, he believes, 6.50/lb for the cheapest brand.
This is middle-of-the road priced but good quality.
5.) Shaun contacted Andrea Spandonis. She told him that the companies KSU uses is Starbucks, Seatle's Best, and General Mills. She also
said that she has been working with someone (Jess?) for about a year on fair trade coffee, and that indeed, Starbucks is considered KSU's
fair trade coffee.
Please continue work on fair trade, including research and what we as a group want out of fair trade.
NExt week's agenda
