Getting Connected
Staying Involved

Leadership is not magnetic personality—that can just as well be a glib tongue. It is not "making friends and influencing people"—that is flattery. Leadership is lifting a person's vision to higher sights, the raising of a person's performance to a higher standard, the building of a personality beyond its normal limitations.
Peter F. Drucker

The Laurels would like to Congratulate the new Chapter of 2007-2008, inducted March 18, 2007!

You can read more about the new chapter on the News and Minutes Page!

The Induction Ceremony, held in the Governance Chambers on the second floor of the Student Center, was a momentous occasion. Through this ceremony, each member of the incoming chapter receives a certificate of membership, accepting with it the "burden of its privileges" while outgoing chapter pledges to "continue their pursuit for excellence."

The Torch has been passed from one chapter to the next.
May you "ever hold high The Torch".

The Torch

The God of Great Endeavor gave me a torch to bear.
I lifted it high above me in the dark and murky air,
And straightway, with loud hosannas, the crowd proclaimed its light
And followed me as I carried my torch through the starless night.
Till drunk with the people's praises, and mad with vanity,
I forgot 'twas the torch that they followed, and fancied they followed me.

Then slowly my arm grew weary upholding the shining load,
And my tired feet went stumbling over the dusty road.
And I fell - - with the torch beneath me. In a moment the light was out,
When lo! from the throng a stripling sprang forth with a mighty shout,
Caught up the torch as it smoldered, and lifted it high again,
Till, fanned by the winds of heaven, it fired the souls of men.

And as I lay in the darkness, the feet of the trampling crowd
Passed over and far beyond me, its paeans proclaiming aloud.
And I learned in the deepening twilight the glorious verity,
'Tis the torch that the people follow, whoever the bearer may be.

Combined Chapter Meetings

After induction, incoming and outgoing chapters unite for the remainder of the Spring Semester. Our regular meetings host both chapters as we transition officers and the chapter as a whole. Our last few projects provide new members the opportunity to become active and shadow outgoing leaders before graduation. Meeting together is both fun and inspiring as you can see an outgoing member (Architecture Major) and incoming member (James Zhu, Treasurer Elect) taking a break from brainstorming to compete in a construction project with chocolate candy.
