Tihar Celebration

Kent-NSA wishes you a happy Tihar 2068. To celebrate Tihar in full energy and enthusiasm, we are organizing a Tihar Party. Party will be made lively with candles, blinking lights, deusi- bhailo, and delicious foods. Everyone is encouraged to take part in nach-gaan and deusi-bhailo.

Dashain Celebrated

Maintaining the tradition of Dashain Party making the big one, Kent NSA did what it had to do. Altogether about 50 people were present including some internationals.The attractions were dance performance, singing and the party game." Taal ko pani",a dance,sparked the crowd to come to the stage and dance together followed by a group dance in various dance numbers.Foods were amazing especially, goat meat (khasi ko masu) if not panir curry. It did not seem like people missed their friends and family back in Nepal. To sum up, it was an awsome program.

Movie Show

Kent-NSA organized a Nepali movie night (Sano Sansar) on Friday, February 5th. family and friends came together and enjoyed the night watching a very good Nepali movie. 

20th September, 09 Fairchild Soccer field, 620 Majors Lane, Kent

Friendly soccer match and badminton tournament

This was the first event organized by the newly elected executive committee. All Nepalese at Kent gathered at Fairchild Soccer field on the Sunday morning to exchange some actions on the soccer field. Soccer competition was between blue jersey team and white jersey team, headed by captain Kabi Raj Bantawa and Naresh Shakya respectively. White jersey team defeated blue jersey team in a friendly match. Similarly, female participants enjoyed playing badminton among them. Dr. Leela Joshi conducted the Badminton tournament. Gina Rai was the winner of the badminton game. Prabin Rai was the coordinator of the program.

Dashain Celebration

Dashain is the celebration of good over bad. All Nepalese living in and around Kent gathered at the Van Campen hall to celebrate Dashain, the main festival of Nepalese people. Attractions of the program were traditional Nepalese food, cultural performance by children, bingo game and other similar activities. This is the main flagship program organized by Kent-NSA every year.

Tihar program

Tihar is the second most important festival for Nepalese people. We offered Laxmi puja, played deusi bhailo, and enjoyed the open floor dance. Most of the couple participated in couple dance which became another attraction and received a lot of applause from the audience. As usual, Nepalese food was also an attraction of the program.

Farewell program of Kent-NSA member Dr. Kabiraj Bantawa

Recently, Dr. Kabiraj Bantawa received his PhD in Physics from the university. Before he left for Nepal, Kent NSA organized a farewell program for him at the Student Center. Various members of Nepalese Community at Kent shared their memories with Dr. Bantawa and experience as a whole of living together at the same community for a long time. Dr. Bantawa also shared his memories and tentative plans for his future endeavors. President of Kent-NSA Tej Gautam handed a memorabilia valuing his contribution to the community and recognizing his achievement in obtaining PhD degree.

Nepalese Information table in Community Dinner

The community dinner was sponsored by Kent State University and was a very good opportunity to meet and socialize with community members. More than 500 people participated in the dinner. Kent-NSA had a table, where we displayed different cultural objects, postcards, and artifacts related to Nepalese culture. We also distributed flyer highlighting the attractions of Nepal.

Talk program Dr. Madhav Bhatta

Dr. Bhatta, an Assistant Professer of Epidemiology at College of Public Health, Kent State University gave a presentation at Kent Student Center on general information about the public health concerns for Kent communities specifically covering H1N1 virus issue. He also talked about the available academic resources available to the students at Kent State and opportunities for professional development.

Support to Ronald McDonald House of Akron

Kent-NSA support to Ronald McDonald House of Akron by collecting donations from Nepalese community: McDonald house provides support for the people who are in need during their stay in Children's Hospital. People from Nepalese community kindly donated various items as per the wish list provided by the house. The collected items were handed over to Ronald McDonald House on 24th December. Naresh Shakya coordinated the program. Kent-NSA also received a letter of appreciation from the house for its generous support.

Farewell program to graduating students

Bishal Adhikari, Mamaki Shakya, Rassha Dewan and Roshani Tamang completed their BBA studies in December, 2009 from Kent State University. A program was organized by Kent-NSA to wish them all the best and congratulate for their achievement. Members expressed farewell and their warm wishes for the better future of graduating students. Graduating students also shared their experiences of living in a Nepalese community in Kent. President of Kent-NSA Tej Gautam handed memorabilia valuing their contribution to the community and recognizing their achievement in obtaining BBA degrees from the university.
