AIDS Denial
PRIDE! Kent along with 32 other co-sponsors including Black United Students, Feminist Union, C.A.R.E., Habitat for Humanity, United Christian Ministries,
and Hillel, were denied funding for "Silenced Voices: Remembering the Casualties of HIV/AIDS." The sponsors are still in shock at the decision by the allocations
committee to block funding without reason. PRIDE! Kent and the Feminist Union will appeal the decision jointly with backing from several other student organizations
during the first Undergraduate Student Senate meeting. If you have questions or concerns about this decision, please e-mail the Senator for Business and Finance, Kevin Folk,
who heads the allocations committee at kfolk@kent.edu

Transgender Day of Remembrance
PRIDE! Kent took part in the National Transgender Day of Remembrance, holding a candlelight vigil on Kent State University’s main campus. The Day of Remembrance was created in
1999 in honor of Rita Hester who was murdered in 1998. It is a day that is set aside to remember and honor those who have died as a victim of anti-transgender hared of
prejudice. For many of these murder cases, like Rita Hester, they have not been solved.
The Transgender Day of Remembrance serves several purposes, mainly to raise awareness for anti-transgender violence, an issue that rarely gets reported in the media.
On average, one transgendered person is a victim of a hate crime, and in recent months the average has been three to four. It is with creating visibility and honoring
those that have died that we try to bring attention to this ever growing crime, and hope to put an end to anti-transgender hate crimes.

Margaret Cho
A huge success, Margaret Cho's performance filled the floor of the MAC center in late October. Irreverently covering many political and personal issues, Cho filled the
MAC center with laughter.
