Now tell me again, what is this youre doing?
~~~~~~~~~~~
This will be a training to build skills that will help you effectively organize a campaign for social change. Some of these skills include; identifying your target and secondary targets; direct action strategies; strategic planning; building relationships and alliances; messaging to you target audience; and much more. With many campaigns budding on the KSU campus--fighting to renovate Oscar Ritchie Hall, resisting Police Brutality in Warren, OH, getting KSU to brew Fair Trade Coffee exclusively, kicking military recruiters off campus, stopping the burning of the Ravenna Arsenal, to kicking Coca-Cola and Chief Wahoo off campus--having the necessary skills to organize these campaigns effectively is ESSENTIAL. In sum, the goal of this training is to help us win.
...and who's doing this exactly?
~~~~~~~~~~
Susan Knight will be the presenter. She presented a more abbreviated version of her workshop at KSU last spring semester that was well attended (15-20 people) and well received. Susan Knight is a National Field Organizer for the Sierra Club's Responsible Trade Campaign. As of this printing, she is currently on the West Coast shoring up citizen opposition to CAFTA (the Central American Free Trade Agreement).
So, who's invited to this workshop?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
This workshop is open to anyone who has an itch to erase racism; give voice to environmental destruction; resist militarism; achieve social justice for all; give equal rights to LBGTQ people to any social injustice burning within you crying out to be redressed.
What will happen during the workshop?
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Attendees will split into groups to simulate organizing a campaign which will be evaluated by the presenter. Please bring friends or members of your organization along with your own personal campaign ideas! Feel free to come on your own too! It is not mandatory but strongly encouraged that those who attend be present for the whole time both days due to the interactive nature of the workshop.
If you are coming from out of town, housing can and will be provided for you.
