- The primary source of funding is a designated fee of $40/semester per full time student.
The services provided by University Health Services are presently offered at no additional
cost to the Kent students with the exception of :
- Laboratory tests which must be sent out to a reference lab for processing.
- Medications purchased in the UHS pharmacy,
- Miscellaneous medical supplies (crutches, braces, etc.).
- Counseling sessions by Psychological Services ($20 co-payment for individual 1 hour
session).
- Some immunizations and/or medications used in treatment.
- The current health fee is one of the lowest in the country.
- Currently students (including part time students) may access all of the services
provided by Health services at no additional cost and as many times as needed throughout
the semester.
- If a for profit company takes control of University Health Services
the amount that students may pay could change.
- The health center at Auburn University has been outsourced and
the initial visit to their health center costs $74 with a follow-up
visit costing $40.
- It is estimated that approximately 25 to 30% of the current
students at KSU are either underinsured or have no insurance at
all to cover these costs.
- The structure of service may change if outsourced. Currently
at UHS we are missioned to treat students only. The RFP infers
the fact that faculty, staff and non-KSU people may be seen at
the Health Center.
- University Health Services is currently here to help KSU students
in any way we can to complete your education here at Kent. We
are not here to make a profit on the students We are here to make
sure in any way we can that each and every student enrolled will
graduate.
