Porthouse Theatre 2012 Auditions and Interviews

The Ohio Theatre Alliance, North Central Auditions and Interviews:

Cleveland Area Auditions (NEW LOCATION):
Dates & Times: Monday, February 27, 2012 4:00pm to 8:00pm
Place: Playhouse Square in Green Hall.  Green Hall is accessible through the State Theatre stage door, 1650 Chester Ave., Cleveland, OH 44114.

Kent Area Auditions:
Dates & Times: Tuesday, February 28 and Wednesday, February 29 from 6pm – 10pm.
Place: Kent State University main campus, Music & Speech Center.  The Music & Speech Center, 1325 Theatre Drive, is located on the corner of Horning Rd. & Main St., Kent Ohio 44242

Regional Callbacks:
Call backs will be on Saturday, March 3, 2012, time TBD.  Those being considered for all three shows will be asked to attend an additional callback on Sunday, March 4, time TBA.  On Saturday, March 3, there will be a dance call, singing and reading for individual parts.  Callbacks will be held at Kent State University in the Music and Speech Center.

OTHER:
A representative of the theatre will be attending SETC’s March 7 – 10, 2012 and will be holding EPA’s in NYC on Friday, March 30, 2012.

The Porthouse Theatre 2012 Season Auditions Begin in February

Kent, OH—Porthouse Theatre will begin auditions for the 2012 season in late February at Kent State University and in Cleveland.  Productions include Damn Yankees, The World Goes ‘Round and The Sound of Music.

Auditions will be held in two locations.  On Monday, Feb. 27th at Playhouse Square from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. in Green Hall.  Green Hall is accessible through the State Theatre stage door, 1650 Chester Ave., Cleveland, OH 44114.   Auditions at Kent State University in the Music & Speech Center in D205 Acting Studio will be on Tuesday, Feb. 28 and Wednesday, Feb. 29 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.   The Music & Speech Center is located at 1325 Theatre Drive, is located on the corner of Horning Rd. & Main St., Kent, OH 44242.

Auditions are by appointment only and can be scheduled after January 10, 2012 by calling 330-672-3884 or emailing porthouse@kent.edu.  Indicate the location (Cleveland or Kent), a first and second choice of time slot, and a contact phone number. Please speak slowly and clearly when leaving a message.

Those auditioning for the 2012 season should prepare two selections of 16 bars, one ballad and one up-tempo song.  Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key for the accompanist provided.  Acappella singing will not be permitted.

The first production, Damn Yankees, directed by Artistic Director Terri Kent, is a Broadway musical that follows a Washington Senators fan who makes a pact with the Devil to help his baseball team win the league pennant.  Music and lyrics are written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross.  The musical is based on a novel by Douglass Wallop, The Year the Yankees Lost the Pennant and runs June 14, 15, 16, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 at 8 p.m. and June 17 and 24 at 2 p.m.

The second production, The World Goes ‘Round, a collection of love songs and comic numbers by Broadway legends John Kander and Fred Ebb with words and music written by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross and conceived by Scott Ellis, Susan Stroman and David Thompson, will be directed and choreographed by Sean Morrissey.  The show runs July 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21 at 8 p.m. and July 8 and 15 at 2 p.m.

The third production, The Sound of Music, a family classic composed and written by Richard Rogers and Oscar Hammerstein II in 1930, will also be directed by Terri Kent, artistic director.  This production is an adaption of the book written by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse suggested by Maria Augusta Trapp’s The Trapp Family Singers.  The show will run July 26, 27, 28, 31 at 8 p.m., August 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 at 8 p.m. and July 29 and Aug. 5, 11, 12 at 2 p.m.

Porthouse Theatre was founded in 1971 and is the premier summer theater in the area. Set on the beautiful grounds of the Blossom Music Center, Porthouse offers audiences the finest in professional summer theater. The comfortable 500-seat, outdoor, covered pavilion theater is located next to the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Cuyahoga Falls. Porthouse Theatre is a cultural service of Kent State University. Porthouse Theatre is a member of the Akron Area Arts Alliance. Porthouse Theatre's programs and activities are made possible in part by funding from the Ohio Arts Council.
