During the 2008-2009 academic year, the Wick Poetry Center will be celebrating 25 years of encouraging new voices through poetry. In addition to our regular reading series, we will offer programs that will focus on the distinct components of the Wick Poetry Center’s offerings, bringing back our authors, interns and assistants, and scholarship winners to inspire, instruct, and share their stories of how they’ve made a life in the literary arts.
Throughout the academic year, the Wick Center will highlight different components of its programming with two-day events of readings, panel discussions, workshops, and outreach into the community. In September we will feature our current scholarship winners and bring back former scholarship winners. In October, the 2007 Stan and Tom Wick Poetry Prize winner, Djelloul Marbrook, and judge Toi Derricotte will be featured, and in November, two former first book winners and two former judges. Several former chapbook winners and the most recent chapbook competition winners, Kevin Oberlin and Ted Lardner, will gather in February, and in March, former Wick interns, assistants, and fellows. In April, musician and songwriter Hal Walker and area students and teachers who participate in the outreach program will present the annual “Giving Voice” program. Our year-long celebration will culminate with a two-day event including an anniversary presentation, slide show, celebratory dinner, and open readings.
